‘Art Is Everywhere. You Just Have to be Able to See It’
Unique Pieces from RWC’s Amy Hinson on Display in August Art Show
IRVINGTON, Va. – If you’ve spent any time walking through the halls of Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury (RWC), chances are you’ve admired the work of August’s Artist of the Month, Amy Hinson—even if you didn’t realize it.
From colorful paintings and creative seasonal displays to unique mixed-media pieces, Hinson’s artistic touch can be found throughout the campus. Her creativity has become an integral part of the RWC environment, bringing beauty, inspiration, and joy to residents, staff, and visitors alike.
Hinson has been part of the RWC family for nearly 23 years and currently serves as the Director of Life Enrichment. In addition to coordinating a vibrant schedule of activities and events, she shares her passion by teaching art classes to residents. Her enthusiasm encourages others to discover their own creativity, regardless of experience or ability.
“Every day I see art all around me in almost everything I see and do,” she says. “I’m obsessed with it.”
Her artistic journey began about 10 years ago, during a fundraising event for the Lancaster Community Library when it was preparing to move into its current location. The event—a wine-and-painting party—sparked something unexpected. What started as a fun evening quickly grew into an enduring passion.
Nearly every day since then, Hinson has found herself exploring new artistic techniques and materials, although she confesses that acrylic is her favorite medium.
Her passion is evident in the variety of work she creates. Hinson has crafted whimsical cement mushrooms, nature weavings, acrylic and watercolor paintings, fiber art, photography, and countless mixed-media creations. She’s even incorporated unexpected materials such as aluminum foil and pieces of bone into her artwork, proving that inspiration can be found almost anywhere.
“There isn’t anything I won’t try,” she says with a smile.
Visitors are invited to enjoy Hinson’s exhibit throughout the month of August and celebrate an artist whose creativity continues to leave a lasting impression across the RWC campus.
