Celebrating a Remarkable Milestone: RWC Resident Turns 109

Irma BurkeIrma Burke has lived a happy life at RWC for two decades

Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury (RWC) is thrilled to celebrate Mrs. Irma Burke, a beloved resident, as she reaches the incredible milestone of her 109th birthday on Sept. 25.

Born and raised in White Stone, Virginia, Mrs. Burke grew up on a family farm with her five siblings. She and her husband, W.R. Burke, shared a loving marriage and had a daughter, Catharine Moore. After her husband’s passing in 1946, Mrs. Burke found fulfillment working at the Bank of White Stone and volunteering with Rappahannock General Hospital.

Mrs. Burke’s connection to RWC runs deep. Her mother and sister were residents, making her decision to join the community in June 2004 an easy and heartfelt one. She felt it was the best choice for herself and her family.

In October 2009, Mrs. Burke was honored with the Living Well Award and proudly cut the ribbon for RWC’s Life Enrichment Center in 2017.

During her two decades at RWC, Mrs. Burke has embraced a wide range of activities, including Bible study groups, exercise classes, gardening, crafts, bus trips, games, musical programs, and therapy dog visits. Her zest for life and involvement in the community continues to inspire those around her.

When asked about the secret to her long life, Mrs. Burke simply says, “White Stone water.”

RWC is honored to celebrate Mrs. Burke’s remarkable life and the joy she brings to the community.
